Delores K. Thomas, 77 of El Dorado, AR, went to be with her Saviour on April 16, 2015, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House after a short illness. She was born on October 25, 1937, in Monroe, LA to William Herman Kennedy and Virginia Pearl Smith Kennedy. She lived in El Dorado with her grandparents, Cora Mae Marcum Kennedy Sides and James Malton “Jim” Sides.
Delores graduated from EHS in May 1955, and was married to her beloved James E. Thomas, Jr. on July 14, 1955. Delores and James had two children, Cynthia Thomas Vaughan and James Byron Thomas.
She had an upholstery shop at her home for many years. Delores was of the Christian Faith and became a credentialed minister of the Assemblies of God. She served as church secretary for First Assembly of God in El Dorado under Rev. Robert Holland. She was secretary at RSVP until she became the director in Union County, where she eventually retired. After retiring, she loved to travel and work in her garden. Delores wrote a book entitled Brighter Tomorrows about her life and love of God.
Preceding her in death are her parents, grandparents, husband, and grandchild, Heather Birkeland Price, and great-grandchild, Zach Thomas.
She is survived by her two children, Cindy Thomas Vaughan and husband, Danny of Edmond, OK, and James Byron Thomas and his wife, Denise of Savannah, GA; her grandchildren, Kirsten Alexander and husband, Marc, Seth Birkeland and wife, Chasity, Elora Collver and husband, Matthew, Dru Birkeland and wife, Kailey, Brian Price, Byron Dale Thomas, and wife, Lisa, Terry James “TJ” Thomas, Michael Dee Bradshaw; twelve great grandchildren; her half-brother, Russell Kennedy of Little Rock, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. today at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Greg Tucker officiating. A private burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
