J. S. Thomas, 74, of 608 E. Main St., died Wednesday morning in a local hospital following a short illness. Mr. Thomas was a practicing attorney and had been a resident of El Dorado some 40 years. He was a member of the Arkansas and Union County Bar Associations, a veteran of World War I, and was a Methodist. Born Aug. 19, 1896, in Rowell, Ark., he was the son of Dan and Dora Lewis Thomas. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mercedes Cervantes Thomas; a son, James V. Thomas, a stepson, Robert C, Cabiness, St. Louis, Mo., and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Rumph Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Alvin C. Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. (El Dorado Times - July 29, 1971)
