Today, November 19, 2012, one of the richest men in town died.

Melvin Leroy Carter, Sr., 76 of Mayflower, went to his mansion in heaven. He doesn't leave behind millions of dollars, but he does leave behind a legacy of love.

Melvin was born in Mayflower, Arkansas on December 12, 1935 to the late George and Velma Carter.

Melvin was a well-respected and loved member of Mayflower First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He worked in the grocery business for 40 years and retired from Rand's, Inc.

Melvin was married to Jo Ann Pritchard on November 7, 1954. Together they raised four children. Those children were raised in a home full of love and dedicated to God. He was a wonderful husband and father and a clean living Christian man. He was adored by his children, grandchildren and greats.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Velma Carter, sister, Wilma Ruth Carter, brother Earl Carter and son Melvin l Carter, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Carter; daughter Terri (Doug) Cotter of Hurley, MO, son Mark (Tammy) Carter of Jacksonville, AR, and daughter Sharanna Nowicki, of Euless, TX; sister Mary Lee (Carroll) Williams of Conway, AR, and brother George Carter of Raleigh, NC; Nine grandchildren, 20
great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:00am, Friday, November 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Mayflower, with visitation 1 hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow in Mayflower Cemetery, under the direction of Griffin Leggett Conway
