Alice Mae (Smith) King, age 88, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away Friday, February 6, 2015, in Mountain Home. She was born March 4, 1926, in Henderson, Arkansas to Leffel and Stella (Teverbaugh) Smith. She graduated from Central Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas, and married Guy R. King on June 29, 1946, in Mountain Home. While raising her sons, Jim and Paul, she worked as a substitute teacher. Family was a very important part of her life, and she loved to travel and entertain.
Alice joined the First Baptist Church in Mountain Home where she was a member for 65 years. She was very active in her church, with a focus on missions. She taught Sunday School for 40 years, organized the Baptist Women's World Day of Prayer for our area, and was Director of WMU for both the local church and White River Baptist Association.
In her community, she was a founding member and on the board of directors for the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas for 20 years, earning the Alice Ayers Volunteer Appreciation Award. She was a charter member of Coterie, was a member of the Baxter County Historical Society, and worked on the Wolf House committee.
She is survived by her son: Paul King and wife Sheila of Mountain Home, a sister: Joyce Huett of Elizabeth, a brother-in-law: Gene King of San Diego, California, a daughter-in-law: Anita King of Mountain Home, six grandchildren: Stacy Herrman and husband John of Morris, Illinois, Marcie Burnham and husband Aaron, Kristi Seawright and husband Tim, David King and wife Christy, Richard King and wife Candace and Josh King and wife Lora all of Mountain Home, twelve great-grandchildren: Leslie and Mitchell Herrman, Tanner and Georgia Burnham, Emma and Ben Seawright, Bailey, Abby and Clayton King, Connor and Ryker King and Sydney King. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son,Jim.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. A visitation will be Sunday from Noon until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas.
Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
