BELLA VISTA - Donald Eugene Nelson, 76, of Bella Vista died Nov. 27, 2007, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Madison, Wis., to Arthur Nelson and Margaret Eldred Nelson.
He grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Concordia Military Academy in Indiana. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an instructor of command management and human relations at the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. He retired from the military Jan. 31, 1980.
He was employed by the state of Wisconsin as chief of fire prevention and later as chief petroleum inspection. He retired to Bella Vista in 1993. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Boren Nelson, on Oct. 11, 2003. He enjoyed singing and was an avid golfer. He was a regional manager for Little League and had umpired football, baseball and softball.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Belanger Nelson of Bella Vista; one son, George Eddie Wells and wife Judy of Andalusia, Ala.; two daughters, Lois Elizabeth Flaherty of Denver, Jean Marie Helgestad and husband Ron of Bella Vista; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. Richard Lindman officiating.
