When James LaFayette Adams was born on September 13, 1907, in Faulkner, Arkansas, his father, James, was 57 and his mother, Mattie, was 32. He married Lucille Potts on September 3, 1928, in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage. He died on December 13, 1946, in Faulkner, Arkansas, at the age of 39.
