W. P. Poole, 93, of Calion, died Wednesday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Calion Methodist Church with the Rev. Rickey Justiss and the Rev. Gordie Givens officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery on the Calion Highway under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Mr. Poole was born Jan. 18, 1881 in Felthensal and was the son of Thomas Peter and Leah C. Wasson Poole. He was a steamboat captain since 1902 and a retired employe of Calion Lumber Co. He was a member of Calion Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons, R. A. "Bud" Poole of El Dorado, T. C. Poole of Calion, D. I. Poole of Victoria, Tex., and Robert E. Poole of Hampton; three daughters, Mrs. Irene Herring of Bryson, Tex., Mrs. Marie Manley of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Plez Major of Calion; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bertram Baker, R. D. Walker, Jimmy Staples, Morgan Murphy, James Alfred Parker and Alfred Parker. The family will be at the residence of T. C. Poole in Calion.
