Freeman William Griggs, 65, of 201 Crossbow Road, Huntsville, died Wednesday, June 19, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Dec. 2, 1919, at Kingston, Ark., the son of Loss William and Sarah Spencer Griggs. He was a disabled veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Thompson Griggs of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Hawkins of Huntsville, Mrs. Virginia Parker of Bridger, Montana, and Mrs. Kathy Bass of Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Fate Griggs of Jerome, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 22, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Garrison officiating. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ray Grigg, Ray Drake, Leo Bowen, Jim Hargis, Bill Bradley and Frank McCollough.

Ruth B. Griggs, 84, of Rogers, formerly of Huntsville, died Dec. 27, 2009, at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville. She was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Kingston, the daughter of Vernon and Venna Stansell Thompson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingston First Southern Baptist Church. She was the widow of Freeman William Griggs, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1985.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Louise and Jerry Hawkins of Huntsville, Virginia and Ronnie Parker of Bridger, Mont., and Kathy Bass of Rogers; one brother, Johnny Thompson of Springdale; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Lovena Tyson officiating. Interment will be in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home, www.brashearsfuneralhome.net, of Huntsville. Pallbearers will be: Jess Parker, Jeff Thompson, Dustin Lawrence, Isaiah Morris, Kenneth Turentine and Dan White.
