Robert John Baker of Sage passed away Thursday morning December 13, 2012. Born on September 26, 1944 to Robert B. and Vesta Lee Baker, Bob was a lifelong resident of Izard County. He married Joyce Gillihan on May 28, 1971 and together they raised two sons, Jonathan and Bill. Most of his career was dedicated to social service where he enjoyed quietly offering help to his neighbors. Bob was a craftsman - an expert woodworker and blacksmith-who was eager to learn about any old-time way to work with his hands. He was a voracious reader who never saw a book on history or philosophy that he wouldn't read. Above all else, Bob was a loving man. He was a loving neighbor, friend, son, brother, father, grandfather, and husband who could be relied on when he was needed most.
He leaves behind his wife; two sons; three grandchildren, Bailey Baker, Liam Baker, and Frances Baker; a brother Joe Baker; a niece Brandi Miller; and a nephew Donald Ray Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha Oliver; and a nephew, James Baker.
Honorary pallbearers are Paul Weaver, Doyle Lawrence, David Todd, Sam Geifer, Rick Gillihan, and Ray Vanatta.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Melbourne Public Library, PO Box 343 Melbourne, AR 72556
