James Robert Baker formerly of Sage, son of the late Don and Lula May Swope Baker, was born May 29, 1948 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He died September 1, 2002 in Columbus, Wisconsin. He was 54 years old.
During his working years, Mr. Baker was an electrician. He served in the United States Army for 24 years. He was a soldier in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sage Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, James Robert Baker, Jr. of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; one long time companion, Lea Priewe; three brothers, Donald Ray Baker of Lake Tahow, California; Bobby Baker of Sage and Joe Baker of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Martha Oliver of Batesville; his grandmother, Vesta Baker of Melbourne and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services were held September 4, 2002 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers were Steve Wheeler, Michael Dale, Connie Johnson, Conway Miller, Jerry Blankenship and Tom Fischer. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Lamb, Brock Wheeler, Ronald Moser, Harold Stroud, Gary Graham and Clay Hanley.
Interment was at the Melbourne Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
