Obituary
Hazel Dean Hopkins Rogers, 69, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Sparks Regional Medical Center from a heart-related illness. She was born to Andrew C. and Mary Hopkins in Natural Dam on Jan. 20, 1939. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Joann Conner of Tulsa and Jimmy Hopkins of Newark, Texas.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Floyd Pete Rogers; children, Edward E. Rogers of Tulsa and Lenora R. Carson, son-in-law, Rick Carson, and grandchildren, Skylar and Zac Carson, all of Owasso, Okla. She is also survived by some very dear and special friends including, Neill L. Bear of Tulsa and Arkansas friends and family Mary Lois Carter, Anna Mae Edwards, Tressie Hopkins Hall, Dee Hubbs, Shirley Linton, Bernice Rogers and all of the member of the Van Buren Literary Club. She attended the University of Arkansas, where she earned a bachelor of science degree, and went on to be a home economics and family living teacher at the Van Buren High School. She was the current president of the Van Buren Literary Club, a former member of the Red Hat Society, a member of the Genealogical Society and a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren. She enjoyed reading, cryptograms, crossword puzzles, cooking and taking care of her grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers include Larry Lee Alexander, Johnny Conner, Cameron Hubbs, Cliff Hubbs, Craig Hubbs, Wade Rogers, Jay Williams and Jason Carter.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Body will be cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
