Winnie B. Morton, 81, departed this life on March 17, 2008, in Heber Springs after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Morton was born in Morganton, AR, October 8,1926. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband W.H “Bo” Morton, her parents Clarence and Charlcie Johnson, and a brother Wendel.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Rana and husband Rick, grandsons Morton and Jordan, all of Heber Springs, a sister Wilma Turney and husband Glenn of Higden and a brother Winford Johnson and wife Faye of Waco, TX, sister-in-law Mildred Thompson of Clinton, and brother-in-law Paul Morton and wife Shelby of Higden. She is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and numerous friends and relatives.

Winnie was a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she received a BSE in education. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Morganton and taught in Higden and Fayetteville before moving to Clinton. A lifelong educator, Winnie taught for 36 years most of the time in first grade. She especially love teaching her students to read and ruled her class with a ping pong paddle. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Circle 1, and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association until moving to Higden. She was a member of the Holiday Hills Methodist Church. Winnie and Bo enjoyed fishing and camping with friends. Her interests included visiting with family and friends and of course teaching children to read.

Visitation will be at 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. today at the Clinton First United Methodist Church and the funeral will follow at 2:00. Internment will be at the Higden McLehaney Cemetery.
