SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Dorothy Maye Golden Sykes, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in West Siloam Springs, Okla.
Celebration of life services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Abbott and the Rev. Jason Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery by Wasson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sykes was born March 5, 1918, in Mosheim, Texas, the daughter of Sam and Lula Golden. She married Henry Alvis Sykes on May 20, 1936, in Happy, Texas. They moved to Siloam Springs in 1953. She worked as an aide at Woodland Manor in Siloam Springs for eight years. They moved to Bowie, Texas, in 1979. She returned to Siloam Springs in 1994 after the death of her husband in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Sykes and wife Zee of Royse City, Texas, and Michael Sykes of Dallas; a daughter, Pat Allen and husband Pete of Siloam Springs; eight grandchildren, David Allen and wife Stephanie and Julie Davis and husband Les, all of Siloam Springs, Doug Allen and wife Shandy of Prairie Grove, Debbie Merrell of Garland, Texas, Karen Sykes and husband Skye Gaskill of Lake Dallas, Texas, Scott Sykes of Dallas, Jeff Baucum of Quinlan, Texas, and Julie Wilson and husband Keith of China Grove, N.C.; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winnie Jones of Dumas, Texas, and Bobbie Roberts of Nashville, Tenn; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Lynn Heller of Alvarado, Texas, and Royce Heller of Abilene, Texas.
The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Siloam Springs High School Scholarship Fund, Arthritis Foundation or Trinity Hospice of Tahlequah, Okla.
Pallbearers will be David Allen, Doug Allen, Scott Sykes, Les Davis, Lynn Heller and Royce Heller.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
