Sybil Maxine Turney, age 80, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the White County Hospital South in Searcy. Born in Rose Bud on June 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Bailey and Vivian (Herrington) O'Guin and Frank O'Guin.
A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mrs. Turney was retired from the Conway Human Development Center. She had been a member of the Quitman First Baptist Church since 1949.
Mrs. Turney was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Albert Turney. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill O'Guin and Dennis O'Guin; and her son-in-law, David Pate.
Mrs. Turney is survived by her daughter, Brenda Pate of Quitman; two granddaughters, LaTonya Pate of Claremore, Oklahoma, and LaDonna Martin and husband, Bryan, of Quitman; one great-grandson, Joshua David Martin of Quitman; six nieces, other family members and many friends.
Five special people touched her heart and brought joy to her life and were considered to be part of the family: Lauren Fry, Talon and Tia Houston, Brianne Brown, Ricky Vaugh-Nicks, and their parents.
The family extends a special thank you to Maria Smith and the nurses at the White County Hospital South Hospice Unit.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Quitman First Baptist Church with Bro. Bennie Foster and Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery at Quitman.
