William 'Albert' Zachary
William "Albert" Zachary, 87, of Springdale died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. He was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Hagensport, Texas, the son of Sherman and Geneva Barton Zachary.

The family moved to the Northwest Arkansas area when he was about 14, and he had been a lifelong resident ever since. On Sept. 17, 1938, he married Bonnie Ingraham and this September they would have celebrated their 69th anniversary. He worked at several professions over the years, logger, school bus driver, insurance salesman, flea market owner, but most of his working years were spent as a building contractor.

He built many houses in the area, but more importantly, together with Bonnie, he built a home. A home where love of God, love of family and good character were instilled in their four children from an early age. He enjoyed bowling, his computer, playing the fiddle, singing, but mainly he enjoyed people. He was a member of the Holcolmb Street Church of Christ where he was baptized in 1936. He was also a lay preacher of the gospel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Vaudery Zachary Sr., two sisters, Pauline Sharp and Thelma Erwin and a grandson, Patrick Wayne Zachary.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three daughters, Wanda Bone and husband Steve of Elkins, Kathy Law and husband Don of Tulsa, Okla., and Glenda Artman and husband Gene of Springdale; one son, Wayne Zachary and wife Lorretta of Lawrence, Kan.; five sisters, Leanell Shockley, Isabelle Meeker, both of Springdale, Margie King and Val Wallis of Lowell and Shirley Lichtenberg of Bella Vista; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at Sisco Chapel in Springdale with Pat Mannon officiating.

Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today, June 29 at the funeral home. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Bonnie Zachary
SPRINGDALE — Bonnie Beulah Zachary, age 88, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at her home in Springdale. The daughter of George Edward and Maybelle Shockley Ingraham, she was born November 21, 1921, in Washington County, not far from War Eagle Mills, on the farm her father homesteaded in 1910. All of her growing up years was spent there. She was named Bonnie by her father and his mother because she was such a "Bonnie Lass."

As a child growing up during the Great Depression, everyone in the family had to work hard to help make a living. But unlike some folks, she had only fond memories of her childhood years surrounded by loving parents and two protective big brothers, and amid her numerous cousins. Together they attended the one-room schoolhouse in the Pine Creek Community, where many happy hours were spent at church socials, pie suppers, and singings.

When she was almost sixteen, she met the love of her life, a tall, gangly, Texas boy, whose dad operated a canning factory just downstream from War Eagle Mills. Bonnie worked at the factory peeling tomatoes. Albert "Ab" Zachary was soon smitten by her, and everybody started complaining that "Ab" was filling Bonnie's peeling bucket with the biggest tomatoes, causing her to make more money than the others, so Albert's dad put a stop to that! But the romance continued to blossom, and on September 17, 1938, two months shy of her seventeenth birthday, Albert, the boy from the Texas Plains, and Bonnie, the girl from the Arkansas Hills, were married. In December 1939, their first child was born. The next few years were tough for the young couple as they struggled thru war rationing and scarcity of work to support their growing family, which now included three more children. But their commitment to each other and their trust in God to make "everything turn out alright" carried them thru 68 years of marriage as they worked to set a worthy example of living their lives for God for their children and grandchildren to follow.

As she neared the end of her journey here in this life, her hospice physician, Dr. Bradley, asked her if she could recall what some of the happiest days of her life were. She replied, "Every one of them." This was how she viewed her life as she continued to say in her final dark days when asked, "I'm doing just fine," leaving this life as a "Bonnie Lass" in the spirit that she entered it.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Lester Ingraham and William "Edward" Ingraham, a grandchild, Patrick Zachary, and a son-in-law, Don Law.

She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Bone and husband Steve of Elkins, Kathy Law of Tulsa, Glenda Artman and husband Gene of Springdale; a son, Wayne Zachary and wife Lorretta of Lawrence, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Stewart Johnson Jr., Shawn Johnson, Scott Johnson, Shellie Walker, Tracy Smith, Stacy Artman, Michelle Pozo, Christopher Zachary, and Jonathan Zachary, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 4 to 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, online guest book at heritageofnwa.com.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, at Pleasant Street Church of Christ with Pat Mannon officiating. Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Stewart Johnson, Jr., Shawn Johnson, Scott Johnson, Stacy Artman, Chris Zachary, Jonathan Zachary, Kent Walker, Brian Smith and Jaime Pozo.
