Jesse Roland "J.R." Pulliam, 79, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 14, 2005, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center, following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 8, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Jesse Oregon and Emma Rachel Risenhoover Pulliam.

A World War II Army veteran, he was retired from an auto cleanup shop and was of the United Free Will Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Pulliam and Leonard Pulliam.

Survivors include his wife, Mearl Davis Pulliam, whom he married Sept. 22, 1951; two daughters, Beverly Ann Hathcock, Walnut Ridge, and Linda Kay Hendrix, Hoxie; and two grandchildren, Trisha Hendrix and Emily Hathcock.

Graveside service was Monday at 10 a.m. at Whittaker Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jerry Hilburn, Marvin Burns, Glenn Hendrix, Jesse D. Pulliam, Harold Forehand and Jim Hathcock.

Memorials may be made to the United Free Will Baptist Church of Walnut Ridge.

Mearl Lovetia Pulliam, 92 of Walnut Ridge passed away August 17, 2023, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mearl was born April 6, 1931, to the late Luther and Jessie Digman Davis in Lawrence County. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jesse Roland Pulliam on September 22, 1951. She spent most of her career working at the First National Bank in Walnut Ridge becoming head teller and later the Vice President. She loved her church family, reading her Bible, and attending church in the First Freewill Baptist Church of Walnut Ridge. She also enjoyed going fishing at Lake Charles and collecting pie plates.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Pulliam; a granddaughter, Trisha Duckworth; two brothers, Arbie Gene Davis, and Jesse A. Davis; and three sisters, Mary L. Hardison, Louise Gwaltney, and Lucille Tessmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Jim) Hathcock of Walnut Ridge, and Linda (Charles) Hendrix of Hoxie; one granddaughter, Emily Hathcock, two great granddaughters, Ashtyn Duckworth, and Addyson Duckworth; one brother, Earl Davis of Durand, IL; one sister, Shirley Ashbrook-Lemay of Atoka, TN; and many other family and friends.

Graveside Service will be Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Whittaker Cemetery in Walnut Ridge with Bro. Tim Campbell officiating. Pallbearers will be Johnny Constantine, Brian Duckworth, Will Hendrix, Jesse Pulliam, Bobby Long, and Mike New. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Abbott, Jerry Tucker, and Jerry Hilburn.

Visitation will be Monday, August 21, 2023, from 5 till 7 PM at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.
