Mabel Colvin

Mabel Colvin, 83, of Sringdale died Sunday at the Springdale hospital after an automobile accident.

She was born March 25, 1916 in Narcissa, Okla.

She is survived by five sons; Harlan Colvin of Millington, Tenn., Paul, Arnold and Charles Colvin all of Springdale and Kenneth Colvin of Johnson; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Dean of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Joe and Julian Wilson both of Miami, Okla.; seven sisters; Mrs. Iva Hoffman and Mrs. Nellie Coffman both of Vinita, Okla., Mrs. Inez Smith of Ketchamn Okla., Mrs. Opal Kralik of Arkansas City, Kan., Mrs. Letha Goddard and Mrs. Mary Burns both of Miami, Okla., and Mrs. Alice Taylor of Springdale.

Services are set at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel and burial will he in Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Woman Killed, Another Injured When Hit by Car

A woman was killed and another seriously injured at 11:41 p.m. Saturday when they ran in front of a car on Highway 71 north about 225 feet south of Sanders Avenue.

Springdale police identified the fatally injured woman as Mable E. Colvin, 63, 502 Mountain View Ave.

Seriously hurt when hit by the car was Alice E. Taylor, 61, of the same address. She was taken by fire department ambulance to Springdale Memorial Hospital where she was placed in the intensive care unit. A hospital spokesman said she remains in serious condition today.

Police said the women were struck by a car driven by Marshall Capers Bassett, 67, 1610 Sheridan Drive, Rogers.

Bassett related that he was traveling north at about 35-40 miles per hour when the women ran in front of his car. He braked but was unable to avoid striking them.

Three witnesses told police that the women crossed Highway 71 from the VFW Club and then turned around and started back across the highway in front of the car.

There were no charges filed, police said.

Born March 25, 1916, in Narcissa, Okla., Mrs. Colvin was the daughter of Joseph and Virginia Cusic Wilson and the wife of the late James 0. Colvin.

Survivors include five sons, Harlan L. Colvin of Millington, Tenn., Paul D., Arnold A. and Charles H. Colvin of Springdale and Kenneth H. Colvin of Johnson; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn D. Dean of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Joe L. and Julian L. Wilson of Miami, Okla., Mrs. Mary Burns and Mrs. Letha Goodard of Miami, Mrs. Inez Smith of Ketchum, Okla., Mrs. Opal Kralik of Arkansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Alice Taylor of Springdale; 12 grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Nelson Funeral Chapel, Fayetteville. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.
