J. W. (Jim) wages, one of the oldest citizens of Calhoun County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Ellis, on Saturday. Mr. Wages was born January 9, 1852, in the vicinity of Harlow, and had lived in that community his entire his entire life. He married Miss Mary Gammill of Eagle Mills, on January 3, 1872. To this union eleven children were born, ten of whom survive. They are; Mrs. Catherine Sanders of Bearden, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Hopkins and W. M. Wages of Harlow, Monroe Wages of Sparkman, Mrs. Lucinda Johnson of Tahoka, Texas, Thomas A. Wages of Ouachita, Mrs. Nancy Ellis of Thornton, Mrs. Florence Cobb of Odonnell, Texas, John J. Wages of Bearden, and Irvin Wages of Pauls Valley, Okla. Besides his ten children, deceased is survived by 66 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Among the survivors are a grandson and great grandchild, Alfred Wages, and baby, of Fordyce. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and a firm believer in that faith. He lived a quiet peaceable life and was loved and respected by all who knew him. (Fordyce weekly News - June 29, 1939)
