Stephens, Oct. 27 - Samuel Perry McClurkin, aged 87, wealthy oil land owner and retired merchant, died in his home Tuesday night. He was born in Union County, August 3, 1861, but came to Stephens community in early life, where he was engaged in the mercantile business until his retirement a few years ago. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, W. E. and Roy McClurkin of Stephens, three daughters, Mrs. Walter Keith and Miss Fern McClurkin of Stephens and Mrs. G. D. Billberry of Jackson, Miss., a number of grandchildren, including Jensen and Max Nygaard of Stephens, Leroy McClurkin of Stephens, Charles and Victoria Jane Billberry of Jackson, Miss. Funeral services will be at Stephens Methodist Church, at 2:30 Thursday afternoon with Rev. W. R. Boyd Officiating. Burial in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. (Camden News - October 27, 1948)
