Caron Crafton

CAVE CITY - Garon L. Crafton, 84, of Cave City died Monday, May 15, 2006, in a Cave City nursing home.

Born Dec. 17, 1921, at Strawberry, he was the son of Elvie and Effie Sneed Crafton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific areas. He was a superintendent for a railroad construction company. He helped organize Cave City Nursing Home and was a board member since its inception. He served as a Cave City alderman and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Cave City.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Robinson Crafton; two sons, Danny Garon Crafton of Andalusia, Ill., and Ralph David Crafton of DeKalb, Ill.; a daughter, Sheila Joy Crafton of East Moline, Ill.; three stepsons, Donald Merritt, Steven Merritt and Robert Merritt, all of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Neil Crafton, Jeff Crafton, Jewel Crafton, Clayton Crafton and Coy Crafton; and two sisters, Ruth Coleman and Gladys Callahan.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City with Jeff Holland and Hoover Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery in Strawberry under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers will be Gary Farmer, Jeral Hastings, Chris Chance, Jim Smith, Jimmy Crafton and Bill Callahan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
