R. M. Reuben Matthew Phillips, born 10 February 1857 died 5 November 1916. Reuben was murdered and several newspaper articles are available about his death. He was shot in his house and when he was discovered several days later, his body was badly decomposed. Family members wrapped him in a sheet, dug a grave nearby and buried him. The grave is located in the Purdy community, about 10 miles east of Huntsville. The grave is close to the County road but would be difficult to find without good directions.
