BRITT, Sarah Ann DROKE - Mrs. Sarah Droke Britt, a resident of this community for over 75 years, died at the home of her son, Hugh Britt, two miles southeast of Bentonville, Saturday afternoon at 6 o'clock. Up until her fall four years ago Mrs. Britt had been in good health and quite active for her age. About three months ago she became ill and gradually worse. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J.A. Womack, were held at Oakley Chapel Monday afternoon and burial made in the Hart Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, many people were present who had known her for over half a century. Mrs. Britt was the daughter of Geo. and Diana Droke and was born in Indiana in 1835. Her parents moved to Benton County about the year 1853 and took up a homestead near Bentonville. The ground now occupied by the Droke school was a part of the homestead farm. A few years after coming to Arkansas she married William Britt, a neighbor's son. Mr. Britt died about 20 years ago. She had lived on the Britt homestead, now occupied by her son Hugh, for 75 years. Surviving Mrs. Britt are her six sons: Hugh and J.J. Britt of the home; George W. and Lee Britt of Rogers; N.W. Britt of El Reno and A.D. Britt of Okmulgee, Okla. Dr. Geo. W. Droke, oldest professor in the University of Arkansas, is her brother. Surviving also are 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
