Gennie Ellon Steelman, a 90 year-old native of Arkansas and resident of Mobile passed away, Saturday. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook for her family. She excelled in sewing and won awards for her tedious handwork. She made Christmas aprons for all the ladies in the family and then began making satin pillow cases for family and friends. Her most celebrated keepsake was an heirloom christening set for which she won competitive recognition. Her loving and caring spirit led her into nursing. Her forte was caring for orthopedic patients. She ended her nursing career by working in a pediatric clinic. William A. Steelman, her husband of 70 years, preceded her in death. She cherished their time together.They laughed a lot!

She is survived by her two daughters: Ann Kilgore (Larry) of Mobile, AL and Linda Kilgore (Terry) of Paris, TX; five grandchildren: Leigh Ann Hans (Chuck) of Land O' Lakes, FL, Greg Kilgore (Stossley) of Longview, TX; Robert Kilgore (Lynn) of Mobile, AL; Todd Kilgore (Kim) of Pleasant Hill, MO and Holly Losey (Nick) of Dallas, TX; nine great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Ashleigh Hans; Bethany, Hunter and Abby Kilgore; Willian and Wesley Kilgore; Tristan Kilgore; Reagan Losey and was awaiting the arrival of another great-granddaughter: sister, Vernie Rogers of Hampton, AR.

Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Mobile on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10 am. Graveside services will be 11 AM Saturday at New Hope Cemetery near Hampton. While she will be missed by her family, there is great peace in knowing that she now sits at the feet of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The family would appreciate donations be made to the Dawes First Baptist Church, 3941 Dawes Road, Mobile, AL 36695. Graveside arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
