Leo S. Byrum Sr., 82, of Fort Smith, died Saturday, March 28, 1998 at a local nursing home.

He was a retired professional golfer. A former caddy at Fort Smith Country Club, he turned professional in 1942 under S.W. Creekmore St. at Rolling Hills Golf Course. He was the golf pro at Durant Country Club in Durant, Oklahoma, the Alma golf course and was the golf pro and past owner of Cedar Golf Course in Van Buren. He was also the owner of three drive-in restaurants.

He was a member of Wood Memorial Christian Church, an Air Force veteran of World War II, a lifetime member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, United Commercial Travelers, American Legion Post No. 313 and a former member of Arkie-Okie Campers Group.

He was survived by his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Kay Mullen of Rye HIll; a sister, Amy Miller of Plant City, Fla; a brother, Harry E. Byrum of Van Buren; two grandchildren and a great grand child.

Funeral services were held at Woodlawn Mausoleum Chapel under the direction of Putman Funeral Home.

Marjorie E. Byrum, 95, of Fort Smith passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, in a Cabot nursing home. She was born June 27, 1921, in Muldrow.

She married Leo Spencer Byrum on June 27, 1937, in Van Buren. Leo and Marjorie worked from 1942-71 in the golf business, where she ran the pro shop and he was a golf pro at courses in Durant, Van Buren and Fort Smith. They later operated several drive-in diners in Fort Smith. After retiring, she worked at Hunt’s Department Store and did volunteer work.
She was a member of Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren, life member of Beta Sigma Phi and past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a 40-plus-year survivor of ovarian cancer.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Debbie Walters of Cabot and Amy Comer of Greenwood; and four great-grandchildren, Steven and Mollie Comer and Matthew and Luke Walters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two children, Kay Mullen and Leo Spencer “Speedy” Byrum Jr.; and one sister, Shirley Nadine Branham Lloyd.

Entombment was at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home.
