Ellen LaRue Van Horn Taylor, born on May 24, 1944, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2024.

She was a woman of great faith, known for her unwavering devotion to Christianity and her significant role as one of the founding members of The Columbiana Church of Christ. Ellen’s love story began on October 17, 1963, when she married her teenage sweetheart, Randall Taylor. Their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Together, they built a life filled with shared values, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. Originally from Ohio, Ellen called it home until 2021 when she made the heartfelt decision to relocate to Arkansas. The move allowed her to be closer to her son, Darren Taylor, her beloved grandchildren, and great grandchildren, creating cherished moments with them in the latter years of her life.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Ethel Van Horn, her brother Herb Van Horn, sisters Ruth DeLand, Violet McDevitt, JoAnne Bartholow, Patsy (Benny) Gonzalez and sister-in-law Ruth Van Horn. She was also preceded by her loving husband, Randall Taylor, their daughter, Lisa Kellems and great-granddaughter Caroline Cline.

She is survived by her brothers, Tom (Betty) Van Horn, Tim Van Horn, and sister Gwen Van Horn. Ellen’s legacy lives on through her #1 son, Darren (Christine) Taylor, her cherished grandchildren: Alexis (Paiton) VanWinkle, Hunter (Alisha) Kellems, Garrett (Lauran) Taylor, Zach Lemmons, Katelyn Babb, Cole Taylor, Courtney Laster, Shelby Kellems, and Carley Laster. Ellen’s great-grandson, Reid Lemmons, and great-granddaughters Carter Bench, Ellie VanWinkle and Everleigh Babb will also carry on her memory.

Ellen found joy in painting, a passion that allowed her creativity to flourish. Yet, her greatest love was her church and her family. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love created a warm and welcoming home for all who knew her. Ellen’s legacy will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in her life. As we bid farewell to Ellen LaRue Van Horn Taylor, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich with love, faith, and the enduring bonds of family. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who went before her, and may her memory continue to inspire and uplift those she left behind.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 9:00am with a funeral service starting at 10:00am in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Burial to follow at Smith Cemetery in Bradford, Arkansas.
