Carlos Avila, Sr., 96, of Barling, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 in a local nursing home.
He was born in Guatemala, Central America on July 4, 1916 to Jose Avila and Conception Huertas.

He moved to Barling in 1980 and was in the Financial Sales business. He attended both the New Jerusalem Christian Church of Fort Smith and the Primera Iglesia Bautista Church of Fort Smith. He also had volunteered at the Barling Senior Citizen Center.

Funeral Services are 12:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2012 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith, Arkansas with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Angela, of the home; three daughters, Thelma Arrivillaga and her husband Manuel of Chicago, IL, Albertina Blanco and her companion Herbert Mandia of Guatemala, Central America and Rita C. Avila of Chicago, IL; two sons, Jose Avila and his wife Rebecca of Fort Smith, AR and Carlos Avila, Jr. of Barling, AR; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.

Angela Avila, 98, of Barling passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in a local hospital.
She was born Oct. 3, 1917, to Felipe and Romelia (Vallejo) Mancilla in Guatemala City, Central America.

Angela was a homemaker, a midwife and a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Church. Angela also attended Christian Foundation Church, was the 2015 Volunteer of the Year for Project Compassion and volunteered at Covington Court Health and Rehabilitation.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carlos Avila Sr.; and one daughter, Thelma Arrivillaga.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Primera Iglesia Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Rita Avila of Barling and Albertina Blanco and her husband Herbert of Guatemala City; two sons, Jose Avila and his wife Rebecca of Fort Smith and Carlos Avila Jr. of Barling; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be sons, grandsons and brothers of the church.
