Eliza Mae Greene was born August 20, 1920 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the union of the late Don Roberson, Sr and Ellen Hogue Roberson. She attended the public schools in Fort Smith. She was a member of Campbell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in her youth. After she returned to Fort Smith from Los Angeles, California in 1982, she became a member of the Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church.
