BELLA VISTA — Arlene Mae Hoffman, 88, of Bella Vista, died Jan. 12, 2007, at Earline Howard Hospice Home in Springdale. She was born on July 13, 1918, in Blairsburg, Iowa, to Henry C. and Mamie C. Lemley.
The family moved to Eldora, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1936. She worked as assistant to the city clerk until September 1941 when she married Leonard H. Hoffman and moved to Alden, Iowa.
After her husband was called to service during World War II, she was employed in the office of Selective Service (Draft Board) in Iowa Falls, Iowa, until the war was over. She was assistant to the city manager and helped operate a hobby and craft business.
She retired to Bella Vista in 1977 where later she was employed part time at the Property Owners Association Office. She enjoyed cards as well as golf and was a member of the Ladies Nine Hole Golf Group, as well the starting of Ceramics at the Boys and Girls Club in Bentonville and remained the volunteer instructor there for a number of years.
Later she spent her volunteer time at the College at the Crossing in the Village. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard and one son, Ronald L. Hoffman.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Hoffman and wife Mary of Bentonville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff, the Rev. Pat Bodenhamer, and the Rev. Verle Shoemaker. A Committal Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bella Vista Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 12 a.m. Thursday at her home, 24 Duvall Lane, Bella Vista. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, online at www.funeralmation.com.
