Ora Pegues was the daughter of the late George and Lavada Wilson. She received her elementary and secondary education in the Ft. Smith public schools, graduating from Lincoln High. She attended the Arkansas AM&N college at Pine Bluff and received her Bachelor's Degree. Later she attended the University of Arkanssas at Fayetteville where she received here Master's Degree, and also attended college at Kansas City, Missouri. She was a devoted School teacher for over 45 years in the Alma and Ft. Smith School Systems. She was a member of the Mission Point Baptist Church. She was married to Henry Pegues who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Ft. Smith NAACP, Justamite Federated Club, NRAACW, National Federation of Republican Women and Queen Esther Chapter #265, Order of Easter Star. She was rewarded by the Progressive Men's Club for her dedicated services to the black community of Ft. Smith. She operated the Our Funeral Home for 38 years.
