Ruby Jewel Madison was born September 20, 1917 in Dardanelle, Arkansas to the parents of Edgar and Sophia Bagby. She moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas with her mother and step-father Otha Byrd in 1924. She attended public schools in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was a member of Campbelll Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age. She remained an active member. She was a member of the Stewardess Board #1, the Missionary Society and a member of the Fidelity Club. She was a former secretary, housekeeper, restaurant manager and a homemaker.
She was married to Nathaniel Madison. She died at the Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas on October 1, 1992.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory four sons, three daughters, thirty-one grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
