Charice Yvetna Caver "Cha" was born on June 27, 1963 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Jean Mickens and Leon Caver. Charice was raised in Ft. Smith and attended schools in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. After graduating from Northside High School in 1981, she attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, majoring in Gerontology. She lived in Ft. Smith until her parents moved to Aberdeen, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Gerontology from Sojourner Douglas College, in Baltimore, Maryland on June 27, 1993. From 1993 to 1995 the state of Maryland employed her as a Social Worker in Child Placement Division. During the time she attended and was also a master candidate at Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Beatrice M. Mickens and step-father, Wellington T. Mathews, Jr. She died at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith Arkansas on November 6, 1999. Due to her illness, she returned to Ft. Smith, in 1995. In 1997 she attended Lions World Services School for the Blind, Where she completed a one year course in independent living.

September 9, 1913 - January 18, 1998

Beartice Marie "Bea" Mickens was the fourth child of the late Elizabeth King Jones (Bess) and Walter Joseph Jones (Jo Buck). She moved to Ft. Smith in 1921 to live with her grandparents, who were actice members of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church. After graduation from Lincoln High School in 1932 Bea moved to Chicago to reside with her uncle. She enrolled in Dunbar High School and obtained a second high school diploma. After graduating Bea attended Chicago Teacher's College. Bea lived in Chicago for many years actively working in Illinois politcs. She then moved to Montclair, New Jersey for several years. Upon returning to Chicago she met and married James Thomas Mickens, Sr who preceded her in death. They had three children. She returned to Ft. Smith in 1953 with her three children where she remained until her death. She was an member of Quinn Chapel Lay organization and the Justamite Federated Club where she served as Vice President and Secretary during her years of membership. She died on January 18, 1998 at her home in Ft. Smith Arkansas. She was preceded in death by two sister, and two brothers.
