*Obituary

Roy Tedford Jones, age 74, was born Oct. 25, 1947, and passed away on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 in Guy, Arkansas. He was born in Des Arc, Arkansas, to Robert and Josephine Jones. They moved to Greenbrier, and he attended Quitman Schools and graduated from Greenbrier High School. He was a former Sunday school teacher and board member of Copperas Spring Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Jones; and grandparents, Williams and Lillie Jones, and Bob and Grace Williams.

On March 5, 1966, he married the love of his life, Joyce Morgan, and had a wonderful 56 years of marriage. He was then drafted and was a combat veteran of Vietnam. His daughter, Robyn, was 3 months old before he got to meet her. Six years later their son, Robert, was born. The two of them lived and raised a loving home in Guy, Arkansas. He worked for Alltel for 38 years, where he retired as a design engineer. After he retired, he had more time to devote to the things he loved most – spending time with his family, traveling out west, working on unique gifts for his family and friends (a jack of all trades), and most of all riding his horse, Frost, or taking naps with his dog, Gus.

Roy loved his family fiercely and was the most generous and giving person. Whether it came to his family, friends, hitchhikers or strangers in need. He was a storyteller, poet, author of three books, guitar picker and singer of old cowboy songs. He was someone who wouldn't put up with much but came to have a sensitive side in his older age. If there's one thing we all knew, it was that he loved Joyce and always made sure she knew it.

Most of his favorite memories happened out west. He loved to vacation in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming with Joyce. They hiked the Continental Divide many times in different locations, rode horses in different areas, the last several years they rode 4-wheelers through the mountains and was a rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jones of Guy; mother, Josephine Jones of Greenbrier; brother, Bobby and Betty Jones of Greenbrier; brother, Van and Dee Jones of Greenbrier; daughter, Robyn Jones of Guy; son, Robert and Tabby Jones of Greenbrier; three grandkids, Morgan Hooten of Guy, Neely and Rece Jones of Greenbrier; one great granddaughter, Rylee Shayne Powell and one on the way Jaxon; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of family and friends.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at Copperas Springs Baptist Church in Guy, Arkansas.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, at Copperas Springs with a graveside burial following at Copperas Springs Cemetery.
