John Sidney Rippy, 81, of Fordyce (Arkansas)died Dec. 16, 2002. He was a salesman for 50 years and a private business owner. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in Fordyce. He was also a World War II Veteran. His military career consisted of: Tank Destroyer under General George Patton, 746 Tank Battalion Company C under Colonel Hupter, Captain James Crawford, Captain Herbert Stackhouse and Captain Shields. Battles in World War II were the invasion of Normandy disembarked on Utah Beach, Battles for Northern France such as the Battle for St. Mere Eglise, Battle of the Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland Battles. Mr. Rippy received a Bronze Star for Valor, and he was a member of the American Legion. He was President of the South Arkansas Grocery Co.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nelline Thompson Rippy of Fordyce; one son, Terry Michael Rippy of Jonesboro; one daughter, Karen Harris of Russellville; one brother, Raymond Rippy of Greenville, Texas; three grandchildren — Kristen Harris, Mark Rippy, and Lauren Harris.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Burial at Moseley Cemetery near New Edinburg, Arkansas. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce.
