Mother Ollie Mae Lewis Jones passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013. She was born September 23, 1932 in Smackover, Arkansas to the union of the Richard (Webb) Lewis and Octie Eleanor Dunn Lewis. Her mother, Octie, died a month after she was born, so Ollie was raised in the loving Christian home of her great-aunt, Callie Goodwin. Ollie's parents and sister, Minnie Bea Smith preceded her in death.
Ollie received her education from the Smackover Training School and later attended Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas where she received a teaching certificate. She enjoyed college life and traveled the country with the college choir, and playing basketball, a sport she enjoy until her passing. Ollie later continued her studies at the Tuskegee Institute and Arkansas A M & N.
Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Sweet Home Baptist Church family.
Ollie united in holy wedlock on June 17, 1955 to Otis James Jones and to this union was born 3 children.
After marriage, Ollie united with Good Home Baptist Church and attended faithfully with her husband and children, and was a member of the Choir. Ollie loved people and loved to talk. She was invited to speak at many church occasions, and was always dressed to impress.
Later, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses where she remained until death.
Ollie was the family historian and was consulted to share her knowledge of family genealogy where ever and whenever the opportunity arose. Her family and her faith were the two most important things in her life.
Ollie studied lead her to become a teacher yet she taught for only a few years because, she said "those children got on my nerves". After teaching, she studied to become an LPN. She received her license from the Arkansas State Board of Nursing and worked at Ouachita County Hospital for 23 years. After leaving the hospital, she worked as a private duty nurse until she permanently retired.
Ollie received many awards and honors in her lifetime. In August 2013, Ollie was asked to run for Queen at the Ouachita Nursing and Rehab Center in Camden where she resided. She ran and won the local Queen contest, the District contest in El Dorado, Arkansas, and then in October, Ollie became the Senior Queen for the State of Arkansas. Even though Ollie was reluctant to even enter the local pageant, she went on to win all three pageants.
Ollie leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 58 years, Otis J. Jones; daughter, Gwendolyn Faye Smith of Little Rock, AR.; sons, James Milton (Patricia) Jones of Lee's Summit, MO., Jerome Jones of Camden, AR., and Odell (Terri) Jones of Lee's Summit, MO.; 14 grandchildren, Shicunda, Jamie, Tiffany, Patrick, Santana, Durand, Erica, Ricky, Cedric, Tony, Comiko, Wendy, Blessing, and Dominic; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Modica; aunts, Cenobie (Pheaton) Massey, Ceola Kimble, and Warnie Lois (Howard) O'Guin; uncle, Victor Dunn; sisters-in-law, Emma (JL) Davis of Milwaukee, WI., Florida Minor of Camden and Ida (JT) Davis of Milwaukee, WI.; brother-in-law, Chester (Rosie) Jones; and many many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with burial in Primm Cemetery near Smackover, AR. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Proctor Funeral Home.
