US Navy (Pilot)
January 15, 1921 - June 6, 2006
Jack Emery Liggett, 85, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home with his family present. He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Blanca, Colo., and was raised in Wichita, Kan., where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy and became a pilot. While he was stationed in Memphis he met his wife-to-be, Willie Ruth Graves. They were married Jan. 4, 1947, and lived happily together for 55 years. In 1953, Jack moved his family to Fort Smith, where he ran a union sheet metal shop for the next 30 years until he retired. He then joined his sons in the building business where he worked until he retired (again) in 1990. Jack touched the lives of many with his compassion, support and unselfish love. He was a dedicated and loving father, husband, "Pop," avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member and past president of the Fort Smith Bass Club, Fort Smith Wilderness Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Ruth Liggett.
