Dorothy Christina Clawson, 89, a resident of Norphlet since 1935, passed away, Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at her residence. She was born September 18, 1923, in Carlisle, AR to Williams Howell Hicks and Stella E. Elmore Hicks.

She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she began working in 1960. In 1972, she became the Postmaster for the City of Norphlet, and served there until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norphlet, and was active in Sunday School and WMU, until her health would no longer allow her to attend.

Dorothy, also known as GRANNY or DO DO to both family and friends, enjoyed visiting and shopping, and later in life she enjoyed her three granddaughters, and her two great grandsons. She was thankful for her neighbors, Charlie and Becca White and her caregivers, Violet Warren, Rhonda Faucett, Angie Jones, and Christina Baker. She looked forward to her visits, almost daily, from her friends Betty and Bobby Love as they drank coffee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Clawson; her parents; three brothers, W.H. “Jr.” Hicks, Donald “Buddy” Hicks, and Calvin E. Hicks; and many more family members and precious friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Cynthia Ann Bolding and her husband, John of Norphlet; three granddaughters, Jill Johnson and her husband, Mitchell of Brandon, MS, Pam Burke and her husband, Todd of Norphlet, Anna Bolding of Norphlet; two great grandsons, Maddox Johnson of Brandon, MS, Clayton Bolding of Strong; a very special niece, Donna Griffith and her husband, Steve and their children, Bryan and Maggie; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Young’s.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Norphlet with Rev. Gerald Perry and Bro. Doug Wills officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family will be at the John Bolding residence at 414 North Tate in Norphet.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Norphlet, P.O. Box 10, Norphlet, AR 71759, or Norphlet Softball and Basketball Girls Programs, Norphlet High School, P.O. Box 50, Norphlet, AR 71759.
