Rex Donaldson Jones was the youngest of five sons born to Henry Arthur and Sallie Dedman Jones on July 28, 1925, Ramsey, Arkansas. He departed this earth to be with his heavenly father on Monday, April 04, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Otis, Woodrow, James and infant, Billy Jones.
Rex was an army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater and occupational duty in Japan.
Rex was ordained as a deacon in the early 1950’s. He served various churches in the capacity of deacon as well as Sundal School Superintendent. He enjoyed Southern Gospel music and sang in local quartets and the church choir at Cullendale First Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. Rex was a 32nd degree mason and served as worshipful master during the 60’s for Camden Lodge #11. He was also a Shriner and past member of the Camden Jaycees. He was employed by Proctor Funeral Home as an insurance salesman and funeral director for many years.
Rex is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rosie Jane Smith Jones. He is also survived by one son, Richard Jones and wife, Sandra of Camden, AR; and one daughter, Judy Harrell of Texarkana, TX. Survivors also include three granddaughters who he loved very much, Susan Harrell of Ft. Worth, TX, Julie Bird and husband, Billy of North Little Rock and Lisa Lowe and husband, Paul of Sherwood. Other survivors include five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Wesley and Everett Bird, Hannah and Andrew Lowe.
The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers at Pine Hills Heath and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Camden for their loving care during his illness.
Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Cullendale First Baptist Church on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Camden. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Cullendale First Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
