Bonnie Ruth Atkins Walthall, age 80, of El Dorado, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2022. She was born August 2, 1941, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, to the late Harvey “Buddy” Atkins and Effie Jane Clifton Atkins.

Bonnie graduated from El Dorado High School in 1959 and married the love of her life, Russell, two weeks later, on June 14, 1959. They spent 62 wonderful years together. She worked outside of the home as a church secretary, a pianist for the church, and spent many years working for the Arkansas Oil & Gas Commission. She enjoyed many hobbies like sewing, quilting, canning, and baking beautiful cakes. She loved to fish and fished on the Bass’n Gal Pro Tour. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church where she spent countless hours serving and making dresses and pillowcases for the numerous mission trips she took. She loved her church and her church family. She was a wonderful hostess and loved planning games, so her guests had an enjoyable and memorable time.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed a ballgame or dance recital and went to every school and church performance. She loved to pick vegetables from the garden with them and teach them how to cook the best chocolate pie. She loved her 11 favorite grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with all her heart.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and by one brother, Clifton “Butch” Atkins.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Walthall; two daughters, Rushell and Gary Meshell, and Pam and Stewart Chandler, all of El Dorado; one son, Wayne and Michelle Walthall of Hot Springs, AR; favorite grandkids, Rebekah and Cricket Curl, Jacob Stover and Shania Hoof, Tommy Gavagnini, Rachel and Jacob Smith, Alexandra and Tanner Vaught, Dalton Walthall, Eric Gavagnini, Hannah Stover, Emily and Drew Moore, Sally Walthall, Evan Chandler and Cameron Poole; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Emalynn, Zoey, Effie Jane, Eloise, and JT; one sister, Paulette Stringfellow; one brother, Ricky and Debbie Atkins; a sister in law, Pat Atkins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at West Side Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at West Side Baptist Church, with Bro Cody Lain and Bro. David Voss officiating. Burial will follow at Wyatt-Parnell Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
