*Obituary

Carolyn Jane "Janie" Curtis went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday morning, March 31, 2006. She was born Feb. 19, 1945, in Montecino, Wash., to Allen and Millie Pershall. She is survived by her husband, James E. Curtis of Fort Smith; her daughter, Gina Clark and son-in-law, Marty Clark of Fort Smith; her son, Chris Curtis and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Curtis of Dallas; her brother, Leon Pershall and sister-in-law, Debra Pershall and their sons Dylan and Daniel of Evansville and Cedarville; and four grandchildren, Paxton Clark, Hudson Clark, Samuel Curtis and Casey Curtis. Janie lived in Evansville where she met and fell in love with James, her lifelong best friend. They were married on Sept. 7, 1963, in Lincoln. They soon moved to Tulsa and then to Fort Smith where together they purchased their own business in 1969. For years Janie kept the books and records and together they created a thriving company including ANGE Tooling and Arkansas-Oklahoma Machinery Inc. She devoted her time to loving and nurturing her children and supporting Jim in his career. Janie was a completely selfless, joyful, wise and altruistic person who gave all her energy in caring for others. She had many friends from many different backgrounds. Although Janie suffered from significant health problems, primarily rheumatoid arthritis since her mid-30s, she never complained or asked for help from others, and her faith never faltered. Her life was lived as a volume of Christ's love and her grace and faith was an inspiration to many. Janie loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength and lived every day of her life as a true testament of her faith, with Christ firmly at the center of her life. She loved her entire family in the same way and was deeply devoted to them. The funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Mickey McAnally, Andy Neal, Jim Perry, Bob Bradford, Bob Reynolds and Jim Miller.
