*Obituary

Viola Brown, 95, of Fort Smith, formerly of Heavener, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in Fort Smith. She was an honor graduate of Heavener High School and attended business school in Oklahoma City and worked as a secretary for a while. Viola enjoyed being around people so much that she decided to go into the restaurant business. Before her marriage she owned and operated two restaurants in Heavener. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Heavener, where she served on the Worship Committee 22 consecutive years, 10 years as chairperson of Worship; she was a youth Sunday school teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women, where she served in every local office. Viola will be remembered for her many activities in Heavener and as an author and journalist. She gained her name as a journalist by submitting to the newspaper publicity writings for both Eastern Star and church affairs for many years. During those years, she wrote and directed church members in some 22 religious portrayals. Four of those scripts were bought and published in religious books. Viola was inducted in the Order of Eastern Star and became Worthy Matron in the Heavener Chapter No. 279 and served in that capacity for four years.
