Monroe Maxwell Jones, age 87, of Junction City passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. Monroe was born on Sept. 4, 1930 in Junction City to the late Julia Ruth Maxwell Jones and Emon Owen Jones.
Monroe was a 1948 graduate of Junction City High School and was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where he obtained his BSE. He was an ordained deacon of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He obtained the rank of Sergeant while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He and his father owned and operated Claiborne Feed and Seed in Junction City for many years. He was a former coach, teacher and bus driver for Junction City High School and was a retired office manager for Willamette Industries of Lillie, Louisiana, serving 25 years before his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, Monroe and Mary Alice enjoyed traveling, crapi fishing and spending time with their grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor Jones Weaver and Floy Jones Vogt.
Survivors include; his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice Jones of Junction City; two daughters, Arden Sweet and husband Johnny of Junction City and Janell Thames and husband Don of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one son, Craig Jones and wife Kim of Junction City; two granddaughters, Candee Franks and husband Paul of Junction City and Haley Bell and husband David of Magnolia; two grandsons, Steven Jones and wife Kelsey of El Dorado and Jared Thames and wife Margaret of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three great granddaughters, Shelby Franks and Cassidee Franks both of Junction City and Mary Catherine Jones of El Dorado; one great grandson, Beau Jones of El Dorado.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City.
