Clara Darline Gray died peacefully at her home in Katy, Texas, on May 23, 2017. Born April 20, 1935, near Smackover, she was 82 and the youngest daughter of John D. and Clara Kinder Smalling. She was preceded in death by them, her sister Louise Manor, her brother Wade H. Smalling and her beloved husband Edwin R. Gray.
Along with sister Willie Mae Aycock of Junction City, brother Michael Smalling of Eureka Springs and sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Buddy Chenoweth of Tulsa, she is survived by sons Roy Darwin Gray, and his wife Debra, of Cat Spring, Tommy Glen Gray of Katy and John Roland Gray of Houston.
Blessed with adoring nieces, nephews and friends, Darline is also survived by grandson Nolan R. Gray, his wife Darlene and their children Hunter Royce Gray, Ashton Kay Yvonne Gray and Jacob Lee LaCombe; step-granddaughter Barbara Burge and sons Joseph and Cobin Stembridge; granddaughter Katie Jean Gray and son Maximus; grandson Troy Glen Gray; granddaughter Lacie Darline Gray; granddaughter Breanna Darline Lessing, husband Christopher and sons Aaron, Alec and Brody; granddaughter Haylee Janese Handly and husband Blake; and granddaughter Aimee Marie Gray.
Darline dedicated her life to husband and sons and, in time, grandchildren and great grandchildren, doting on each of them, quick to joy in their achievements and support in need, always their pillar of unconditional love.
Ms. Gray will be interred at Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City alongside her husband on May 27. A viewing for immediate family at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado is planned for 12:00 to 1:00 PM and a visitation for other mourners from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, to be followed by a service of prayer and eulogy at 2:00 PM in the chapel.
