Virginia Stratton Baxter Ratcliff, 89, of Junction City, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at her residence.
Born July 5, 1923, in Brownsville, Alabama, she was the daughter of Connie Jackson Baxter and Ella Rae Stratton Baxter (Patsy). Virginia graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1946 and taught typing, bookkeeping, shorthand and office practice at Junction City High School for 32 years. Virginia expressed her love of teaching many times to her family and enjoyed hearing from her former students. Many of them sent letters to her thanking her for preparing them for their future vocations. Love of God, family and education made her life full and complete in every way.

Virginia was a member of First United Methodist Church in Junction City for 68 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher and secretary/treasurer for many years.

A wonderful mother, grandmother, teacher and friend; she will be remembered and missed by many. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Nancy Smith, Jackie Payne and Ashley Jenkins for the wonderful love and care they provided to our dear loved one.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Connie J. Baxter and William R. Baxter, grandson, James William Ratcliff, and her husband of 62 years, Wilmer Ratcliff.

Virginia is survived by one daughter, Liz Post (Kenneth), one son Dr. John Ratcliff (Jeri), all of El Dorado, three grandsons, Chris Post (Allie) of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Dr. Jonathan Ratcliff (Chelsea) of Tampa, Florida, and Jackson Ratcliff (Kendall) of Little Rock, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Ashley Post Jenkins and Jessamyn Virginia Ratcliff, both of El Dorado; and one great-granddaughter, Ansley Brooke Jenkins of El Dorado; sister-in-law, Virginia Price of Junction City, Louisiana, sister-in-law, Helen Baxter of Longview, Texas and brother-in-law, James Ratcliff (Betty) of Texas City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Junction City, Arkansas with Pastor Mary Depper officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
