James Y “Muttsy” Cameron, 90 of El Dorado and formerly of Junction City died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Timberlane Health & Rehab following a lengthy illness.
Born November 13, 1922 in Wesson, Arkansas, he was the son of Cephus and Sarah Young Cameron. He was the youngest of five children growing up in Wesson surrounded by a loving family and many dear friends and neighbors. He always had fond memories of his youth and shared many wonderful stories about the time and people who lived there.

He was in the Army Air Corp in World War II, flying as a crew member on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Stationed in Italy, he flew 44 combat missions before being shot down over Eastern Europe. Although injured and in German occupied territory, he managed, with the help of local Yugoslav allies to escape and return to Italy and back to the U.S. at the end of the war. For his service he received a Purple Heart and an Air Medal

After his return from the war, he went to work at First National bank in El Dorado until his retirement in 1977 as Senior Vice-President. He was respected and a friend to his co-workers and many people who lived in El Dorado and Union County. He was member of Scotland Presbyterian Church.

Preceding him in death along with his parents were his wife Janice Fairly Cameron, brothers, Garland Cameron, Alvis H. “Red” Cameron, and Paul Gerald “Shang” Cameron and one sister, Mandy Rhea Griffin.

Survivors include a son, Steve Cameron (Celeste) of El Dorado, a daughter, Toni Rankin (Dr. David) of Magnolia and five grandchildren, 1st Lt. Curtice Fairly Rankin (Candace), Beth Anne Rankin, Sgt. John David Rankin all of Magnolia, Kelly Van Cameron of Hot Springs and Courtney Y. Cameron Cassinelli (David) of Little Rock. Surviving great-grandchildren are Jace Van Cameron, Dan Cross, Caroline Rankin, Cameron Y. Cassinelli and Kate Cassinelli.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 8, 2013 at Scotland Presbyterian

Church with Rev. Sam Shepperson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
