Mrs. (J.R.) Arrah Wanna Payne, age 100, of El Dorado passed away, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Oak Ridge Nursing Home.
She was born January 8, 1915 in Bradley County to Samuel A. and Pansy Lewis Bryant.
After attending school in Hermitage, she moved to El Dorado for employment where she met John "Ritchie" Payne, the love of her life. Over the years she worked with Ritchie as the owners of several businesses before they settled in El Dorado in the early 50s. Wanna worked for the J. A. West Company and the El Dorado News Times. After 36 years of marriage, she became a widow in 1974. Then, she became a childcare giver for over 25 years. Nana or Mamaw Payne took a large number of children into her home and her heart. She cared for them as her own.
She was a member of East Main Baptist Church in El Dorado and attended until her health would no longer permit it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, 3 sisters, Emma Rodgers, Jimmie Payne, and Madge Johnson, a great granddaughter, Megan Payne, her step-daughter, Billie Jean Dickson and her husband Ivy Dickson.
She is survived by three children, all of El Dorado, Rebecca (James) Haygood, Sam (Carolyn) Payne, and Howard (Beverly) Payne, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Bailey's.
Graveside services will be at 2 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Benjy McCann officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado
Memorials may be made to East Main Baptist Church, 1903 E. Main Street, El Dorado, AR 71730, John Williamson Hospice of El Dorado or the charity of choice.
