James R. McGough, 79, of Smackover died at approximately 7 p.m. in a local hospital following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1885, in Union County the son of R. E. and Neva Pumphrey McGough. He had been a resident of Smackover for the past 25 years. He was a lumberman and a member of the First Methodist Church of Smackover. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Tina Ray McGough, two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Buchanan of Greenville, Miss, and Mrs. Benny Cox of El Dorado, three brothers, C. H. McGough and S. L. McGough, both of El Dorado, and Lee McGough of Huttig; two sisters, Mrs. Allie Matthews of Grace, Miss. and Mrs. Grace Phillips of Beaumont, Tex.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Rumph Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Harold Davis officiating. Burial under the direction of Rumph Mortuary, will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. (The El Dorado Times - November 6, 1964)
