Carey D. Hartsfield, 46, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at his home. He was born July 13, 1969, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to Billy D. Hartsfield and Marilyn Carey Hartsfield.

He was a retired sergeant with the Fayetteville Police Department, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado, a volunteer fireman for the Goshen and Round Mountain fire departments, a member of the National Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, a member of the Fayetteville Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 10 and a State Trustee for the Arkansas Fraternal Order of Police.

Sergeant Hartsfield was hired as a patrol Officer with the Fayetteville Police Department on July 2, 1992 and retired on August 27, 2015. His assignments included patrol officer, detective (Juvenile Division), detective (Criminal Investigation Division), promoted to Sergeant on April 13, 2003, Morning Shift Patrol Sergeant, Special Events and Specialized Units Sergeant. When he retired, Sergeant Hartsfield was assigned to Day Shift Squad B.

He also served as an auxiliary officer with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office from February 2003 to July 2007. Sergeant Hartsfield was a law enforcement instructor for many years for the NW Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy, NWA ALETA, as well as the Criminal Justice Institute. He taught many subjects, including DWI Detection, Standardized Field Sobriety and the Drug Recognition Expert Program to Arkansas law enforcement officers.

Carey was preceded in death by grandparents, Ivie Andrew Carey, Elmer Carey, John B. Hartsfield and Nellie Cook Hartsfield.

He is survived by his parents, Billy D. and Marilyn Hartsfield of Fayetteville; sons, Cole Allen and Blake Andrew Hartsfield of Fayetteville; sister, Sonya Waites and husband, Jeff of Ringgold, La.; nieces, Karen King and husband, Kory of Fayetteville and Sanuel Youngblood and husband, Russell of Broken Arrow, Okla.; great-niece, Hannah Pridgen of El Dorado; and great-nephew, Landon Pridgen of El Dorado.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Dr. Doug Falknor officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

A second funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Young’s Funeral Directors in El Dorado.

Interment in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in El Dorado will follow.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday at Young’s Funeral Directors in El Dorado.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up for Carey’s children at the Bank of Fayetteville.
