Fred A. O’Dell, age 92 of Pleasant Plains died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born July 15, 1919 at Imboden, Arkansas to Thomas A. and Martha Jones O’Dell.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, retired from the Memphis State University where he worked as an armed security officer.
He also farmed the biggest part of his life and enjoyed gardening. He had served as a deacon at the Kensington Baptist Church in Memphis. He was a member of the Independence Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Clara Faye O’Dell and four brothers, Cecil O’Dell, Perry O’Dell, Sid O’Dell and Ed O’Dell.
Survivors include two sons, Joe O’Dell and John O’Dell both of Pleasant Plains, one daughter, Julie Wilbur of Knoxville, Tennessee, a sister, Martha Moore of Pleasant Plains, four grandchildren, Nicholas David Wilbur of Knoxville, Tennessee, Emily Claire Wilbur of Denver, Colorado, Makenna Machael O’Dell and Kiernan Mae O’Dell, a step great grandson, Dristan Smith and a step great granddaughter, Megan Lynn Tate and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will begin Friday, June 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Putman Cemetery located in Pleasant Plains with Bro. Brad Roberts officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hampton, Shane Martin, Ralph Smith, Alex Britt, Dan Wilbur and Bodie Payne.

Clara Faye ODell, age 83 of Pleasant Plains died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at a Batesville hospital. She was born August 6, 1928 at Imboden, Arkansas to J. W. and Nora Thompson Smith. She was retired from South Central Bell in Memphis, Tennessee and enjoyed sewing and bowling. She loved her family and had many friends. She was a member of the Independence Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ralph Murrell Smith Sr. and a sister, Jimmie Clestine Rickett.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Fred O'Dell of the home, two sons, Joe O'Dell and John O'Dell both of Pleasant Plains, a daughter, Julie Wilbur of Knoxville, Tennessee, four grandchildren, Nicholas David Wilbur of Knoxville, Emily Claire Wilbur of Denver, Colorado, Makenna Machael O'Dell and Kiernan Mae O'Dell, a step granddaughter, Megan Lynn Tate and a step great grandson, Dristan Smith, a nephew, Ralph Murrell Smith Jr. all of Pleasant Plains and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will begin Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Brad Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Putman Cemetery located at Pleasant Plains with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Service.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dan Wilburn, Shane Martin, Ralph Smith, Michael Hampton, Alex Britt and Dolph.
Honorary pallbearers are Nick Wilbur, Ann Barnhouse, Heather Garcia and Margie MaHurg.
