When R. D. Griffin was born on October 31, 1912, in Miller, Arkansas, his father, Hosea, was 27 and his mother, Hester, was 33. He married Freddie Mae Harrington on September 26, 1933, in Pulaski, Arkansas. He died on September 13, 1998, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, at the age of 85, and was buried in Faulkner, Arkansas.
