Carrie Mae Bowie, also affectionately known as GiGi and Mae Mae, daughter of Lewis Harris, Jr. and Mary Ann Harris, was born on October 7, 1952 in Camden, Arkansas. She departed this life Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Carrie accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Hill A.M.E. Church of Camden, Arkansas. She was a 1970 graduate of Fairview High School and a 1974 graduate of Southern Arkansas University. She was employed by Nevada School District for the majority of her life and after retirement by Camden Fairview School District as a reading interventionist. She retired from Nevada School District in 2015 after 39 years of educating and loving hundreds of children. Carrie was the beloved matriarch of her family and held close relationships with many friends. She had a gentle, sweet spirit and was loved by all who came into contact with her. To many, she served as an adviser and confidant, always lending an ear when she could.

In 1980, Carrie was married to Richard Bowie and to that union two beautiful daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Candace Bowie, and a very special nephew, Terrelle Harris.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Christi and Cara; her brothers, Lewis E. Harris, Michael Harris (Mary), Rickey Harris (Margaret), Terry Harris, and Benjamin Harris (Sandra) all of Camden, Arkansas; and her sisters Gwen Tanner of Little Rock, Arkansas, Marilyn Harris, Mary Ross (Clyde), and Tiquita Harris of Camden, Arkansas. She is also survived by an aunt, Sarah Greening; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; three bonus grandchildren, Alexis, Jaylen and Maya; two special sons, Alex and Robby and other relatives. Carrie’s heart ultimately belonged to her two grandchildren, McKynzi Reed and Roman Clary. They were her pride and joy and could always bring a smile to her face. She was truly their best friend and the best GiGi two kids could ask for.
